They say genius skips a generation. Thank goodness it does. The dress on the right was designed and created by Shirley's granddaughter, Amanda, for a charity fashion show in San Francisco, then was worn on the television show "Scrubs." Gown by Amanda

Grandson 2 is an avid golfer. Grandson 1 is a soon-to-be pro football player, after college, of course. Granddaughter1, the one and only, is the hope of the next generation as neither Shirley's daughter (who is a creative wunderkind) nor daughter-in-law can sew a lick.Send your comments or questions

Shirley Adams, inspirational host of the fashion sewing how-to, The Sewing Connection, comes from an educational background so teaching is her primary concern. With three degrees in clothing and textiles, she taught these subjects at the university level for many years. Now her "classroom" has expanded to include television stations all over the country, Canada, and Australia. She not only provides the quality information to perform such operations as setting-in sleeves and satisfying fitting problems, but she inspires her students to mix and match colors and materials, and even create their own fabrics.
Her first sewing experience? Like many of you it involved dolls - not to play with, but to design clothes for. When not taping television or presenting live seminars literally all over the world, you would probably find her in her favorite place - her sewing room or on the golf course with her favorite little golfing grandson, Miles. Does she really make all those garments she wears and shows in seminars and TV programs? Absolutely! Every one by herself - no sewing staff. Sewing is not only her business, but also her therapy, hobby and passion.
The only thing more important to Shirley than sewing is her family. The Sewing Connection, llc, is a small business. Each family member is responsible for a department. Shirley, of course, entire research and development! John, her husband takes care of all things financial. Rebecca, daughter-in-law, built and currently maintains anything computers. Our administrator, Rosemary, has left us to work in law enforcement. We miss her very much. Shirley's niece Millie and kids pitch in when it is catalog time. And we owe much for our mailings to friends and the WeBeDotters. Update on WeBe's: Helen Harbin, big winner from Dallas ASG contest. We'll post the pictures of first and third when they arrive. Shirl's camera died upon arrival!
Kudos to the Indianapolis and Plainfield American Sewing Guild Chapters (Sewing Guild Chapters in your area) and other members of the WeBDotters without whom we could not get our catalog mailings done. Nor could we catch up on so much of the who's who in our area! And to long time Plainfield friends and family!
